Renew your membership!

Its that time of the year...  time to renew your membership with the Austin MQG!

A few changes to the membership process:

Committees
  • While filling out the registration form, it is now required to sign up for your top three committee choices.  The Executive Council and Committee Chairpersons will do their best to appoint you to your top choices.
  • In order to have more involvement with members, membership will require being part of a committee!  You do not have to be active on your committee, although we hope you will be.  Being a member of a committee opens communication between members, Committee Chairpersons, and Executive Council.
Dues are $40
  • This covers the cost to join the Modern Quilt Guild in July and January!  If you attended the April 2013 meeting, this was discussed in detail.
Payments via PayPal
  • As a modern quilt guild, we want to utilize online payments.  No payments in cash or check will be accepted.  You must pay via PayPal.

Here's to an exciting year!   We can't wait to see you at the next meeting

Charity blocks for Boston

The Boston Modern Quilt Guild is asking quilters around the globe to send quilt blocks using the colors of the marathon - blue, yellow, gray and white - which will be turned into quilts. With more than 170 injured in the bombings, many face a long journey of rehabilitation ahead while struggling with the emotional element of this tragedy. The Boston MQG's hope is to provide comfort through quilts, and we are all familiar with the power of a quilt, right?
Margaret of Form & Fabric has generously offered to cover the shipping costs to Boston. Please click here read the post on the Boston Modern Quilt Guild to learn about the requirements for each block.
The Boston Guild would like to receive everything by May 24th. This means our we need to ship the week of May 17th. Please contact Margaret Udell or Jessica Pierre'auguste to require about where to mail the blocks, they need to be in the mail to one of these ladies by May 14. Or bring them to the May monthly meeting.

Please comment here if you plan to make blocks so that we have an idea of how many we are expecting.
Also, please consider adding photos to the flickr group created by the Boston MQG.

Charity Quilts for Ronald McDonald House

For the past few months our guild has been meeting at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin near Dell Children's Medical Center. It has been a great space to meet in, however due to increased membership, our guild felt the need to move to a larger meeting space. To say thank you for the generosity of the RMHC Austin we made these two quilts.

Using some of the donation blocks from our block swap that was completed last fall, the guild put together two quilts that were donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin for their 24th Annual Bandana Ball and Auction.

A big thank you to Jessica Sloan, owner of the local quilt shop, Remnants:fiber[culture], for donating fabric used in the second quilt and for quilting it.
