Charity Quilts for Ronald McDonald House

For the past few months our guild has been meeting at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin near Dell Children's Medical Center. It has been a great space to meet in, however due to increased membership, our guild felt the need to move to a larger meeting space. To say thank you for the generosity of the RMHC Austin we made these two quilts.

Using some of the donation blocks from our block swap that was completed last fall, the guild put together two quilts that were donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin for their 24th Annual Bandana Ball and Auction.

A big thank you to Jessica Sloan, owner of the local quilt shop, Remnants:fiber[culture], for donating fabric used in the second quilt and for quilting it.

Destash & Swap at the March Meeting

Need to make more room for all the goodies you scored at QuiltCon?

As you heard at the last meeting or have seen on the blog, there's going to be an awesome opportunity to destash and swap goodies at the March guild meeting!

If you've got lingering items in your sewing space that you'd rather replace with something else, bring them to the March meeting!

There are lots of ways to swap:

- Like for Like Swaps: Exchange items such as pre-cut packs, books, tools, yardage.

- Scrap Swap: Fill a gallon bag with scraps no smaller than 2.5"x2.5" square and swap your bag with someone else to get some new scraps.

- Find a Buyer: Really out of space? You're welcome to make cash deals with members so you can move unwanted items out of your sewing space and get back some precious real estate.

Feel free to list items you're bringing in the comments below or on Facebook in order to give others' a head's up.

Start gathering up! The meeting is a week away.

Quilt Photoshoot

Grab your quilts, kids, cameras, and picnic baskets. Weather permitting, we'll all gather in Zilker Park from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday, March 23rd for some quilty glamour shots!

It can be hard to photograph your quilts alone at home, so why not gather with your quilty friends to make it easier. We'll have the portable quilt stand in tow. If your quilt doesn't have a sleeve, it can be clothespinned to the quilt stand.

Potluck food is welcome since we'll be gathering through lunch! :-D

We'll meet at the concrete tables up the hill from the Zilker Hillside Theater at 2201 Barton Springs Rd. Hope to see you there!

Sew-In Day Signup

Are you interested in joining your quilt friends for a 6 hour sewing day? If yes, then you are in luck!

The Austin Modern Quilt Guild's FIRST Sew-In Day is scheduled for April 6, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Northwest Sewing Center on Burnet Road.  The cost is $25.

Bring your own machine, sewing supplies, and your current project. There will be an ironing station as well as a cutting station.

Feel free to bring snacks, but Mary at the Northwest Sewing Center suggested we might want to stick to clear beverages so as not to spill on other people's projects.

If the parking lot is full when you arrive, Mary says it's fine to park on the street just inside the neighborhood on Shoalmont Dr.

To sign up: follow this link or click on the Sew-In Day tab at the top of the page.
